The Panthers had a great draft considering they didn’t have a ton of draft capital. First, grabbing a future franchise tackle in Icky Ekwonu at 6 is great considering many thought he’d be gone by 6. Also, you don’t get a boost in your grade for not taking Kenny Pickett there, but I will give you a “good job” for not panicking. Taking Matt Corral at 94 is much better value than the potential of Pickett at 6 and eliminates any of the added pressure on the player and front office. Brandon Smith in round 4 is a great get as he looks to be the eventual successor to Shaq Thompson. Cade Mays, Amare Barno and Kalon Barnes are all great dart throws late on Day 3 because of athletic upside. Does this group make me think that they’ll win enough games to save Matt Rhule’s job? No, but that’s immaterial.
New Orleans Saints: B
I love the Chris Olave pick, but the rest is average when it comes to the Saints’ draft. Trevor Penning was someone I couldn’t understand the hype on and he’s just not worth the 19th pick in this class or any class. Alontae Taylor was a reach even if he’s a good player. D’Marco and Jordan Jackson are solid depth picks. There’s just no wow factor after New Orleans’ first pick.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: B
I like the Logan Hall pick at the top of the second round. I thought they’d potentially take him at 27. Luke Goedeke looks like a reach to me. Rachaad White is a great rotational back in that offense and a scheme fit- this is Tampa’s James White to make Brady a very happy camper. Cade Otton replaces the void left by OJ Howard and Gronk. The rest? It’s fine. This team’s a contender, it’s not a huge deal that their day three is “meh”.
