Antonio Johnson, Texas A&M

Man Coverage: Pretty good man coverage for a safety, if we are being honest, not to the level of a corner but he is someone who can definitely pick up a receiver in coverage when need be.

Zone Coverage: Trouble in zone coverage as he has a hard time keeping fully aware of what is going on around him. Flashes that he can do it but more often than not the Texas A&M defense keeps him away from this.

Reaction/Recovery: Quick twitch reflexes, his hips, and his feet allow him to be able to recover quicker than normal. Even if he isn’t the first guy to the ball he is constantly around the ball and making a play somehow.

Long Speed: Doesn’t show this trait a ton on film, only asked to work in short areas for the most part but does flash the speed to be able to maintain man coverage on receivers.

Ball Skills: Goes for the ball when closing on ball carriers, punches, and shoulders the ball to try and force a fumble, and has a combined six pass deflections and forced fumbles.

Run Support: Good run support, able to find running lanes and fill them but does have trouble disengaging blocks when trying to make a play.

COD Ability: His best trait, back-peddling in coverage and then turning his hips over is a thing of beauty. Changes directions at ease and never lost his balance or has poor footwork.

Awareness: Can sometimes be left playing catch up on plays as he has trouble directing the defense while also watching the snap. Also can leave him in trouble when in zone coverage, does better with his awareness in man coverage, due to responsibilities.

Tackling: Tackles well in space, wraps up, good overall technique so this is also one of his better traits. Is used in coverage but also is used a lot towards the line similar to a Jamal Adams type of role on this Aggie defense.

Physicality/Toughness: Not very physical, can play tough but didn’t show that he is laying heavy lumber on receivers or running backs and also has trouble blowing up blockers when blitzing.
