 2023 BCS OT/iOL Scouting Report

Player: Broderick Jones

School: Georgia

Year:  RS Sophomore

Games Watched: Oregon 2022, Missouri 2022, Auburn 2022, LSU 2022

====================================================================

Pass Protection: Gains depth in his kick slide and has quick steps in his vertical sets. Could use development in timing of his punch. Good get off at the snap and keeps his foot down the mid line of the defender. Will need development with posture. Shows more active hands on jump sets and shoots hands with a solid base. Allowed 5 pressures in over 700 snaps in 2022.

Balance: Drops his head when engaging, causing higher exposure to head/neck injury and limiting peripheral vision. Will need a concerted effort to keep his head up going forward.

Hand Placement: Carries his hands low, leaving his chest exposed. When hands are up and more active, he attacks the shoulder pads and controls the upper body. Impressive grip strength, when he locks on defenders have little success disengaging. Shows decent punch timing when meeting the defender at the top of the set. Keeps hands inside and tight with elbows down when run blocking.

Power: NFL ready strength profile. Gets movement in the run game with power in the upper and lower body. Can stonewall rushers when his base is set. Shows grip strength to lock in on rushers and prevent counters

Football IQ: Scans the field for loopers and delayed blitzes. Is comfortable in gap or zone schemes. Communicates motion and creepers at the LOS.

Anchor: Cannot be moved when feet are set. Has natural strength and power to withstand speed to power and bullrushes. Drops weight and maintains pad level.

Flexibility: Shows good bend when targeting the hip on down blocks. Shows flexibility in the mid section to generate upper body torque

Versatility: Has a very small sample size at RT. Most reps are at LT. Purely based on projection, athletic ability, suggests he has the ability to transition inside without any issues. Best staying outside at OT.

Movement Skills: Easy mover in space on screens and running counter. Shows high level speed and coordination in the open field. Punishes smaller defenders on the second and third level. Shows the ability to block on the move in zone.

Footwork/Foot Speed: Excellent foot speed and quickness. Had trouble anchoring against Missouri due to poor footwork and timing. Quickly gains depth in his vertical sets. Quick choppy steps keep him from being attacked while feet are in the air. Can establish a half man relationship to guard against inside counters.

Summary: Broderick Jones is a highly athletic OT with good size at the postion at 6’5 311. He’s got the mobility to be an effective blocker in space on screens and counter runs. He also has the anchor, footwork and hand usage to counter speed and power rushing defensive linemen. I see Jones as a scheme versatile blocker, he should excel in Gap or Zone run schemes. He should be able to hold up if the offense wants to run heavy 5 and 7 step drops in the pass game. With further development in his posture and hand work, I believe Jones can be a high level starter at the next level.
