Carter Warren, Pittsburgh

Pass Protection: A fluid mover in pass sets, Warren’s kick slide covers plenty of ground while he stays square to the defender. He keeps defenders at arms’ length and anchors defenders past the QB because of his positioning and leg drive. Warren maintains a hard inside shoulder to counter inside moves, however, he still struggles when speed rushers counter across his face.

Balance: Warren’s balance is consistent. He plays with a naturally wide base and keeps his body square.

Hand Placement:  If Warren gets his hands on the defender in tight, he can then steer his matchup wherever he wants them to go because of his grip. On the other hand, if he’s beat off the snap by a faster rusher, he can struggle to get his hands placed properly, at which point his placement is hit or miss. He has a powerful initial punch and even if he doesn’t time it perfectly if he makes contact, he can generate enough power to get himself back in the play.

Football IQ:  Warren’s understanding of run blocking angles leaves him awkwardly out of place at times. His pre-snap reads are adequate as he can diagnose defensive bluffs.

Power:  A strong finisher with a mean streak, Warren is able to sink his hips and drive defenders off the snap.

Anchor: Warren plays with a naturally wide base and wins leverage battles more often than not. When power is brought into his chest, he can stand up and lose his advantage.

Flexibility: Warren’s lower body flexibility and fluidity allow him to be nimble vertically and laterally.

Versatility: Warren has the ability to play tackle on both sides of the line and throughout the 2021 season, he could be found lining up on either side of the line depending on where the ball was

Movement Skills: Agile and fluid in his movements, Warren’s ability to move for his kick slides efficiently and climb to the second level on running downs smoothly.

Footwork/Foot Speed: Overall his footwork is passable, the biggest issue with Warren is he can be prone to stopping his feet after initial contact
