First Step: Hall’s effort/motor helps him a ton here, however, he displays some nice athletic traits with his first step. Hall shows plenty of twitch to his game despite being a solid athlete overall. He has a compact frame so he’s not a long-strider by any means, however, he can quickly establish leverage with his first step and engage with his opponents.
Bend: Hall has solid bend in his hips and ankles but isn’t elite in this area. When engaging with opponents in the stack/shed, he has very nice hip fluidity and can unlock his lower half to dip around tackles with power. Off the edge, Hall has some solid flexibility and can flatten his hips with a surprising amount of consistency.
Hand Usage: One of Hall’s strongest suits as a player. He shows great initial body positioning and placement, which he backs up with power on the pads. Hall drives with a lot of power behind his hits and can easily stun his opponents with a solid knockback. He has little trouble working off of blocks in the run game allowing him the freedom to make plays on the ball carrier.
Pass Rush Plan: Hall’s plus hand usage gives him an advantage as a pass rusher, as he can set up moves well and put pressure in the backfield. He displays some good quickness with his hands, efficiently shedding the hands of his opponents and cornering around the offensive tackle. Right now his go-to move is to use that speed off the leverage a rip move but he has also flashed the two-hand swipe and cross chop.
Motor/Effort: Hall more than checks the box in regards to effort and motor. He does a great job using this effort to win as a run defender and it shows when goes in for a tackle.
Lateral Mobility: Despite his build, Hall displays plenty of athleticism in his game. When dropped out into coverage, Hall has some nice movement skills when working from zone coverage and can make quick adjustments when going in for a tackle.
Run Defense/Anchor: Hall has a strong lower half which allows him to stand pat against offensive line drive blocks. He can set a physical edge from the strong side of plays, rarely getting washed out from the line of scrimmage. He does a job reading and following his keys which allows him to naturally find the football, especially as a gap penetrator. He can struggle with keeping his pads closed to his opponents when he fires off of the line of scrimmage. His body control can get a bit undisciplined given his tenacity as a football player.
Athletic Ability: Hall moves well in space and has plenty of explosiveness when coming out of his stance. He can carry that speed into his arc without too much trouble and has very nice change of direction skills when working out of his rush. He’s not an elite-level athlete but can move efficiently when asked to play in coverage.
Strength: Hall has a dense frame and carries plenty of strength packed into his lower half. He has little trouble disrupting opponents at the line of scrimmage with strength but can struggle to disengage from double teams.
Versatility: Hall offers plenty of versatility along the front seven. He’s deployed primarily as a stand-up pass rusher and will make his money there at the next level. He also has experience playing with his hand in the dirt and rushing from a MIKE linebacker spot.
