Route Running: Heiligh runs a diverse route tree, although he can tend to round off his routes and not make precise cuts when necessary and can be too linear in and out of breaks rather than sinking his hips. While far from a glaring red flag, it’s something to note for when the level of competition gets higher.
Blocking: Heiligh is a willing blocker who has above-average technique.
Contested Catch Ability: Heiligh struggles with consistency in contested catch scenarios. He dropped a would-be touchdown against NIU in what would be classified as tight coverage. The offensive system CCU runs is predicated on open space and the WR room is not acclimated to contested catch scenarios.
Separation: Despite his shortcomings in route running technique, Heiligh gains plenty of separation of the line of scrimmage due to his burst. The system run at Coastal allows him to get open in space and Heiligh is ideal for running short and intermediate routes. If there’s an area he needs to improve in, it’s deep routes, where he struggles to get away from defenders.
Ball Skills: Heiligh has natural hands and more often than not, catches the ball away from his body. However, there are times where he can become lackadaisical and “body catch.”
Beating Press: Doesn’t face press coverage all too often, but when he’s jammed, he uses his burst and footwork to get off of press.
YAC Ability: Heiligh doesn’t offer much after the catch unless he’s open at the catch point. He doesn’t have much in the way of speed or ball carrying moves.
Ball Tracking: He can be susceptible to concentration drops, especially when he’s tightly contested.
Long Speed: Heiligh doesn’t possess much long speed and his play speed seems a step slower than you would want. He wasn’t invited to the combine, so his pro day 40 yard dash time will be crucial.
Versatility: Heiligh is likely a slot receiver only at the next level. He doesn’t possess the size to be used as an outside target or red zone target and he can’t be used as a deep threat.
Summary: Heiligh is a niche prospect at his core, but his ability to create space in the short and intermediate passing games can’t be underestimated. He’ll be a value to whoever picks him on the third day of the draft.
