Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Ohio State

Route Running: Gets quick separation on slants and drags. Works back to the ball on hitch routes. Can attack the seams with Bang 8 routes.

Blocking: Strong blocker. Gives good effort. Strong base and powerful frame for a WR.

Contested Catch Ability: Not exposed to many contested-catch situations due to his ability to separate. Shows play strength to be formidable in contested catches.

Separation: Wins with sudden short-area burst at the top of route stems. Quick feet and subtle head movement creates false steps for the defender.

Ball Skills: Tracks the ball well. Natural hands catcher. Can snag passes outside of his frame.

Beating Press: Wasn’t asked to beat press coverage. Played mostly in the slot and was the #2  in trips. The majority of reps he saw a free release.

YAC Ability: The strength of his game. Instantaneous transition from receiver to runner after the catch. Runs with power and is able to make moves in open space. A terror on drag routes.

Ball Tracking: Doesn’t lose sight of the ball downfield. Judges trajectory well.

Long Speed: Not a true threat to simply run by a defender, but still has excellent play speed. Uses his above-average acceleration judiciously to gain separation.

Versatility: The majority of reps have been in the slot. Will need to see if his role changes going forward.
