Man Coverage: Smooth and balanced backpedal. Tries to reroute at the top of the stem. Shows some ability to play soft shoe at the LOS. Stays hip to hip with receivers. Has experience playing the #2 WR with a two way go.
Zone Coverage: Has reps playing in Cover 2. Versus Oregon played as a Slot/Big Nickel with overhang hook/curl/flat responsibility. Carries receivers through entire zone, hands off coverage and triggers to plays in front of him.
Reaction/Recovery: Shows some twitch when reacting to receivers at their breaks. Will grab as first reaction at times. Triggers quickly in zone.
Long Speed: Shows good speed on film. Shows adequate acceleration to get to top speed. Teams have tested him deep and he has been in phase. Track background, All State 2017.
Ball Skills: Utilizes his long reach to be disruptive at the catch point. Has reps vs USC where he was at no disadvantage on 50/50 balls. Times his contact well to avoid pass interference calls. Led PAC 12 in PBUs in 2021.
Run Support: Has experience as a slot defender with run fit responsibility. Not hesitant to take on bigger blockers when asked to set the edge as a force player.
COD Ability: Responds well when his movement ability is challenged. Is a taller player which leads to less explosive transitions, but still shows the ability to transition and flip his hips to relate to the WR. Can trigger downhill or turn to run out of his backpedal without losing balance.
Awareness: Has reps where he is pointing out proper coverage depth to a teammate pre snap. Doesn’t often get caught with eyes in the backfield.
Tackling: Willing tackler. Will typically aim and throw his body to the hips and below. Goes to wrap up when tackling up high. Not a player that will deliver a knockout blow.
Physicality/Toughness: Tough player that plays with an attitude. Competes from whistle to whistle. Shows mental toughness with short memory.
Summary: Ascending player with NFL bloodlines. Has the upside to be a scheme and position versatile defender. Offers the size/speed combo that will be coveted at the next level.
