League Winner Wednesdays is the weekly review of how players performed according to my metric ‘League Winner Predicts’. It is looking for players who scored 30+ points, 25+ points, 20+ points and Top 10 Ranked for their position. The scoring system being PPR.
League Winner Tallies for Everyone who scored a LWS
Quick Stats Time:
-
6 players scored 30+ points. 4 of them were WRs. The other 2 were Kyler Murray and Patrick Mahomes.
-
21 players scored 25+ points. 8 QBs, 3 RBs, 8 WRs, 4 TEs.
-
41 players scored 20+ points. 14 QBs, 7 RBs, 16 WRs, 4 TEs.
-
8 of the 14 top scorers were QBs.
-
1 RB scored over 25 points in Week 1 (CMC).
-
Out of the 4 30+ point scorers, 3 of them were considered WR2 for their teams in preseason – Cooper, Deebo and Thielen.
-
4 TEs scored between 25-30, 2 scored 14-20 and then 17 scored between 8-13.
QBs:
QBs aren’t very relevant unless you are in a SuperFlex League, but I’ll have a look into them anyway.
Kyler Murray and Patrick Mahomes were the only two QBs to score 30+ points in week 1.
Jameis Winston (29.62) was only 0.38 points off the desired status that 30+ points. Another 5 QBs joined him in the 25+ point category: Goff, Hurts, Prescott, Russell Wilson and Brady.
Matthew Stafford was the closest to 25 points that didn’t make it, scoring 24.34 points. Carr, Taylor, Cousins, Jones, Bridgewater were the other QBs to score 20+ points. Trevor Lawrence and Darnold both within 1 point of the minimum benchmark.
RBs:
Talking RBs and Fantasy, there will always be one RB above the rest, CMC. CMC (27.7), as mentioned, was the only player to score more than 25 points in week 1 (Mixon and Jamaal Williams scoring 25 points on the dot). Jamaal Williams is a ‘Silver’ player and therefore not expected to be a great fantasy player.
Swift (24.4) was the only other player to get close to the 25+ point benchmark. The Lions combined for 49.4 points in week 1 through RBs. Chubb (22.1), Melvin Gordon (20.8) and Dalvin Cook (20.4) the other RBs to score 20+ points.
That meant that David Montgomery, rookie Ty’Son Williams and Alvin Kamara opened their League Winner Score bank account with top 10 finishes.
WRs:
As mentioned before, WRs ran the show in Week 1 with 4 WRs scoring 30+ points. Amari Cooper (38.9) and Tyreek Hill (37.1) were a cut above the rest. Deebo Samuel (31.9) and Adam Thielen (30.2) just making the cut. Cooper, Samuel and Thielen were all meant to be their team’s WR2, with Deebo being given ‘Silver’ classification for the 2021 season.
Corey Davis (26.7), DeAndre Hopkins (26.3) and Tyler Lockett (26.0) followed up in the 25+ point benchmark.
Sterling Shepard (24.3) and Christian Kirk (24.0) could count themselves unlucky not to be in the 25+ point category, but both did much better than anyone expected. Kirk being the teammate of DHop. Kupp, the Bucs duo of Brown and Godwin, Lamb, Mike Williams, rookie Ja’Marr Chase and Zach Pascal all scored 20+ points.
TEs:
I don’t give TEs much love, but that’s only because the middle tier is usually overrated and pushes everyone’s price up. 4 TEs scored 25+ points and 3 of them ranked in the Top 10 Receiver rankings for Week 1 (WRs and TEs).
Gronk returned to greatness leading all TEs and missed out on 30+ points by a single point (29.0), ahead of Darren Waller (26.5), TJ Hockenson (25.7) and Travis Kelce (25.6).
Juwan Johnson deserves a shoutout for his 17.1 points, but the rest were all below 15 points. The majority, 17 TEs, were within 5.1 points of each other (7-12 points) showing no value in those TEs outside of the first list.
