Player: Matt Corral
School: Ole Miss
Year: RS Sophomore
Games Watched: Alabama (2020), Florida (2020), Arkansas (2020)
Best Game: Florida (2020)
Worst Game: Arkansas (2020)
Accuracy: Accuracy is good but inconsistent. He rarely just misses a receiver, but the placement is what does it. Overall, this is a good trait that needs some fine-tuning.
Arm Strength: Corral has a cannon. He can whip the ball through tight windows and sling it deep with ease.
Size: While he doesn’t possess elite size, it is not a detriment to Corral. At 6’1” and 205, he is compactly built and able to withstand hits.
Mobility: Matt Corral is a solid runner. He can run, but his best mobility trait is within the pocket. Corral is so savvy with his movements and slides away from pressure well.
Decision Making: This is not a plus trait for Corral. He needs to be much quicker in his processing and make more consistent throws. Even with good decisions, they get ruined by ball placement.
Out of Structure Ability: When the pocket collapses, Corral can maneuver and make off-platform throws to create big plays.
Pocket Awareness: His pocket awareness is a true mixed bag. He shows the capability to slide away from pressure consistently, but when it collapses quickly, he panics and bails out, usually right into a sack.
Touch/Placement: This needs to be an area of improvement during the summer for Corral. His placement ruins good decisions and he throws swing and screen passes with a little too much gusto. Those haven’t been an issue yet, but they very well could be moving forward.
Upper/Lower Mechanics: Corral’s upper body mechanics are fluid. He can throw from many different arm angles and stays consistent. His feet however are not consistent. He needs to stay poised and drive forward with his feet. Uses his arm too much when throwing the football, especially under pressure.
Progressions: Progressions are fine from Corral. The offense, however, doesn’t give him the opportunity to go through a lot of pro-style progressions. He does a lot of RPO reads and bootlegs. When he does run a concept that requires him to go through progressions, he does a fine job. Would like to see more from him in this area next season.
Grade: 76.5 Third Round
Of all the quarterbacks in this class, Matt Corral so far has the highest ceiling. His gunslinger mentality paired with his arm talent has him poised to take a jump this year. He does need to clean up some inconsistencies, but the skills are there.
