Peter Skoronski, Northwestern

Pass Protection:  Skoronski is quick out of his snap in pass protection. He covers ground easily due to his powerful leg drive. One habit that shows on film with Skoronski that needs to be worked on is his tendency to backpedal when he doesn’t have a direct matchup. In these instances, Skoronski is stood straight up and backpedalling on his toes.

Balance: Skoronski has above-average balance and doesn’t overextend too often. That being said, he can reach too much on down blocks and end up getting off-kilter and losing his footing.

Hand Placement:  Skoronski has a strong initial punch, but his placement is inconsistent. He at times reaches more to the side of the matchup rather than in tight. Against Rutgers, Skoronski got flagged for a block in the back call downfield that was completely avoidable.

Football IQ:  Skoronski’s knowledge of blocking angles in both the run game and pass sets is already at an NFL level even as a junior. He can be prone to mistakes on overload defensive alignments and can at times block the wrong defender.

Power:  Skoronski has power, but he’s not much of a finisher in the run game. The lack of core strength in his lower half can present itself on tape often.

Anchor: Skoronski’s base could stand to get wider and he can work on flipping his hips going forward in run block reps, but he’s stout at the point of the attack.

Flexibility: Skoronksi’s got good lower body flexibility which lends to his movement skills.

Versatility: Skoronski has played at left tackle from his first game with the program in 2020, however, due to his size at 6’4 and 295 and his reported short arms, he may need to be moved inside to guard at the next level.

Movement Skills: While I wouldn’t classify Skoronski’s movement skills or athleticism as elite, he’s a better athlete than you might expect. He’s used on pulls on run plays, which will lend himself well to a potential position move at the next level.

Footwork/Foot Speed: Aside from the backpedalling tendency which needs to be ironed out, Skoronski’s footwork is solid. His feet stay moving after initial contact and when moving laterally, his feet don’t cross.
