Tyree Wilson

 2023 BCS Scouting Report

Player: Tyree Wilson

School: Texas Tech

Year: Junior

Games Watched: TCU, Baylor, Kansas State, Houston

====================================================================

First Step: Shows flashes of an elite first step, but usually played standing up at the 9-tech, not allowing him to showcase his explosiveness. With his length, this is a trait that should develop nicely into a plus.

Bend: Shows flashes of good bend, but often is inconsistent and displays below average ability.

Hand Usage: Doesn’t possess an arsenal of pass rush moves. Very heavy punches when pushing through blockers. He’s able to swipe, but doesn’t use it often. Quality tackling form.

Pass Rush Plan: Takes very good paths to the quarterback, exploits blocking miscues very quickly.

Motor/Effort/Physicality: Very physical edge. Will absolutely bulldoze linemen when in an advantageous position. Always in the play.

Lateral Mobility: Very impressive get off and ability to move laterally. Has a long stride and can get across tackles before they get out of their stance.

Run Defense/Anchor: Elite ability to set the edge due to size and ability to anchor. Keeps his eyes moving and is never out of the play.

Athletic Ability: Astounding size. Impressive speed for his size. Agile to get around blockers when needed.

Strength: Clearly has game-altering strength, but shows inconsistency. Can move a pulling lineman with ease then get stonewalled by a tackle. If he is able to play with consistency, his strength will be a dominant trait.

Versatility: Has played with his hand in the dirt or standing up. Played 9-tech, but could’ve used more time inside. Able to drop into coverage when asked.

Summary: Tyree Wilson is considered a top edge prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft. He comes with incredible size at 6’6” with a 33 ⅝” wingspan. He can display dominant strength to get to the quarterback and use his wingspan to disrupt the play. He is elite at setting the edge. His only issues come with his usage and consistency. He was often used as a 4-3 OLB, which didn’t provide him the best opportunity to develop his pass rush weapons. However, he was still very productive with his strength alone (50 pressures per PFF) and should develop well should a team slide him to the 5-tech. He is a versatile tool who has the floor of an average defensive end due to his size, and the ceiling of a Pro-Bowler.
