Eli Ricks, Alabama

Man Coverage: Can play physical press or mirror man. Could use more development with footwork and balance. Uses length and physicality to hinder receivers at the LOS.

Zone Coverage: Carries receivers through his zone, hands-off coverage quickly. Has shown the ability to diagnose route concepts.

Reaction/Recovery: His first reaction is to grab when he is out of phase. Has shown instances of quick reflexes when reacting to the ball.

Long Speed: Shows solid speed to carry vertical routes.  Has build-up speed. Would be better served using his length and physicality to slow down receivers.

Ball Skills: Can locate the ball downfield. Good hands. Has the “My Ball” mentality. Tracks the ball as well as the receiver.

Run Support: Aggressive and proactive in run support. Will see an offensive player being tackled and won’t hesitate to add his  2 cents. Triggers downhill when asked to be a force defender versus screens and outside runs.

COD Ability: Has some fluidity in his hips. Further development with footwork and eliminating false steps will greatly increase his COD.

Awareness: Shows good eyes in zone coverage. Doesn’t get caught with eyes in the backfield. Able to ID route concepts

Tackling: Looks for the knockout blow. Will need to be a consistent wrap-up tackler at the next level. Will never back down from contact.

Physicality/Toughness: Feisty. Looks to lay the offensive player out. Not afraid to be physical before, throughout, and after the rep.
