Pass Protection: Boone moves well “in a phonebooth”. He shadows and mirrors defenders effectively. Boone has plenty of power in his leg drive on pass sets. He’s far from passive in pass protection, often jarring defenders off the snap.
Balance: Boone maintains solid balance in both the run and pass games. At times, he can get off-centered when going for a powerful impact block in the run game, but he doesn’t end up on the ground too often. In the passing game, if Boone is off-centered, you can often see him trying to pass his matchup off to either the center or the right tackle.
Hand Placement: Boone brings plenty of power in his initial punch, jarring defenders off the line of scrimmage and gaining the advantage. He has a tight grip once he’s gotten attached to the defender.
Football IQ: Boone’s pre-snap recognition is at an NFL-ready level. He’s not shaken by overload tactics and can identify delayed blitzes post-snap and adjust accordingly.
Power: Boone brings plenty of power in the run game. He’s a road grader who can drive his matchup off the line and downfield.
Anchor: Boone has a solid anchor. He sinks his hips and has good core strength. He can occasionally be stood up if he loses leverage to a shorter defender, but overall he maintains integrity with his base rather well.
Flexibility: Boone is somewhat stiff in his lower half. It’s nothing to do with bad weight or a lack of athleticism, but it’s more a factor of it not being an overall part of his complete game.
Versatility: Boone has played guard throughout his time at Louisville and there was talk of moving him to left tackle in the 2021 season, but it never ended up happening. Boone is a great fit as a guard in a power run game, but he’s more of a scheme-dependent player.
Movement Skills: Boone can be used on pulls, but he’s much more effective in climbing to the second level with a full head of steam as opposed to moving laterally down the line of scrimmage. He’s not the most agile and is best used as a bull in a china shop.
Footwork/Foot Speed: Boone displays good footwork and technique. He keeps his feet moving after initial contact as well.
