Blake Corum

Games Watched: Northern Illinois (2021), Wisconsin (2021)

Best Game: Northern Illinois (2021)

Worst Game:  Wisconsin (2021)

Vision: Follows his blocking well on power schemes. Makes cuts off the defenders leverage at the second level. IDs the hole well on gap schemes, makes quick decisions when faced with immediate pressure.

Contact Balance: 5’8 200 pound frame gives him a natural low center of gravity. Stays low to the ground and keeps legs going through contact. Contact balance comes from a natural flexibility that allows him to contort his body. Hits slip off of him rather than bounce off.

Pass Catching: Shows some upside as a receiver. Mostly used on screens and swing passes in games watched. Has some quickness and COD to be a successful route runner with development in that area.

Pass Blocking: Size and play strength will be a concern. Has shown ability to scan and ID the most immediate threat, when asked to protect.

Durability: Was limited with an ankle injury late in the 2021 season. Size and frame will cause concerns about a heavy workload throughout the season.

Change of Direction Skills: Has a jump cut that covers a lot of ground. Hip fluidity allows for easy lateral cuts. Shows the ability to put his foot in the ground and get north/south when necessary.

Long Speed: Has the speed to break off the chunk play. Has two 67 yard runs, a 57 yarder and a 51 yard run under his belt in 2021. Top end speed is not elite level, but there is little chance he gets caught from behind.

Ball Security: No recorded fumbles in 2021. Cradles the ball tight to the chest while running. Switches hands depending upon contact angle. Covers up with 2 hands when headed into a pile.

Creativity: Has a probing running style, always looking for daylight. Has some quickness in the open field to make defenders miss. Typically is one to slip through tackles and use his speed.

Strength: A smaller player for the RB position so naturally play strength won’t be his calling card. Is susceptible to arm tackles, defenders reaching out while engaged will stop his momentum.

Summary: Blake Corum is an explosive player that can serve as the lightening in a lightening/thunder rotation. He can be even more dynamic with development as a downfield route runner.
