Jalen Wydermyer, Texas A&M

Route Running: What he lacks in explosiveness, he makes up for in savvy and his separation skills using his leverage and creativity at his route stem. Doesn’t run a very complete route tree, either running a go route or a flat more often than not.

Ball Skills: Has the occasional concentration drop when going over the middle of the field, but Wydermyer has good hands and can catch the ball away from his body cleanly.

Blocking: An effort blocker at this point in his career, Wydermyer shows average power at the point of attack.

Contested Catch: Can high point the football in jump ball scenarios and maintains great body control in the air.

Versatility: At the next level, Wydermyer is going to be largely used as a move tight end in the slot while he improves his blocking.

Fluidness/Flexibility: Not very fleet of foot, but moves well with the ball in his hands and as a route runner.

Vertical Threat: Mostly ran deep routes at A&M and because of his body control and contested catch ability he was able to rack up 13 yards per reception despite not being a burner.

YAC Ability: Takes long strides and has good field awareness and instincts to make defenders miss.

Physicality: Wydermyer leaves it all on the field. He keeps his legs churning through contact and even when overmatched as a blocker, he’ll keep fighting until the whistle.

Explosiveness: Not an explosive athlete by any means, Wydermyer relies on other aspects of his game in order to win.

Summary: Wydermyer is a highly productive college tight end, however his lack of development as a blocker and his lack of burst is going to limit his ability to see the field on a consistent basis early in his career.
