Jayden Peevy, Texas A&M

Explosiveness: Shows some short-area quickness to penetrate gaps. Gains his power through momentum more than explosive twitch.

Pad Level/Leverage: Standing at 6’6 but does a good job maintaining pad level and leverage. Sometimes will be knocked off balance by angle blocks.

Pass Rush Plan: Usually looks to win with initial quickness and power. Has a push/pull in his arsenal as well as a long arm rush. Not tasked with rushing the passer on a regular basis.

Run Defense: Strong run defender. Occupies blockers, pushes the pocket, and can penetrate gap defending zone runs. Can shed blocks and disengage to attack the ball carrier.

Versatility: Versatility lies within the ability to effectively play and disrupt from A gap to A gap. Can be routinely seen attacking from a 0, 1, or 3 technique.

Strength/Power: Strong at the POA. Pushes the pocket when rushing from the interior. Has some bull rush ability

Block Shedding: Uses wingspan to extend arms and disengage. Doesn’t give up his chest so he maintains control when time to shed.

Hand Usage: Hands go for the chest on initial contact. Strong grip strength. Will attack the inside shoulder and maintain half-man relationship on his way to the ball carrier.

Flexibility: Shows some upper body flexibility when engaged with double teams. Will contort himself to slide off of angle blocks. Will try and get skinny through the hole when penetrating zone runs.

Gap Shooting/Lat. Ability: Used as a looper when running games upfront. Has good short-area quickness for his size. Not often asked to shoot gaps. Would do well to master a swim or 2 hand swipe to maximize his rush.

Summary: Jayden Peevy offers immediate help against the run with his large frame and ability to take on blocks. There is also an upside as a pass rusher with improved and consistent hand usage. Peevy can function in an even or odd front. His main area will be from A gap to A gap. Peevy would be best suited for a multiple front where he can play the 0, 1, or 3 techs at any given snap.
